R.I.P, Skinny

August 17, 2009

I dedicate this post to my guinea pig, Skinny. she was put down today at 11:45 am. The vet said she had swollen kidneys, growths in her stomach, and a blocked digestive system. The vet also said she was in a lot of pain. This is on top of her bad legs and old age. I didn’t even get to say good bye. :(My nan was taking me and my sister to Norwich by bus for the day, and it was all planned. I knew my mum was taking her to the vets, but I honestly didn’t think she’d be put down today. I was hoping at the least, it would have happened tomorrow, so I could have said good bye. My mum rung my mobile, and I had to make the decision there and then. It was either have it done this morning, this evening, or tomorrow. Although the vet had given her a pain killing injection, it would only last two hours, and the vet reckoned Skinny would be in a lot of pain. It was kindest to have her put down sooner rather than later. I started crying on the bus. 😦 I am still very upset. When I got home I painted a shoe box to use as her coffin. I then had to wrap her body in a tea towel and place her inside. I gave her some straw, meadow hay, guinea pig food and some grass to take with her wherever she’s gone. That was the worst part, as her body was stiff and seemed so unlike her living self.  But it gave me half a chance to say goodbye before I buried her.

R.I.P, Skinny my dearest.

Although it added a sombre feel to the day, I manage to cheer up enough to at least enjoy my day in Norwich. I got to eat in my new favourite place, Vegeland, and even ate some Booja Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate ice cream. Like last time, Vegeland proved delicious, I filled my tub even more than the time before. I would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there if I could!

I’ve been interested in trying Booja Booja ice cream for a while, as last time I went to norwich, they had a free Truffle tasting session, and they were sooooo yummy! However, as part of Booja Booja’s ethics, they don’t sell in super markets, and the only place I know selling their ice cream is Norwich. It would melt before we got home. But, they have mini single size pots of the Hunky Punky Chocolate  in Rainbow’s, so me my nan and my sister got some ice cream. (actually, my sister got a dairy Green and Blacks one)

YUM! It was very smooth, very chocolatly, very nice indeed. The texture is slightly different than that of dairy ice cream, but it really doesn’t matter at all. It’s still like ice cream in so many ways. The ice cream is very expensive, but as a treat it’s very worth it, especially after reading the ingredients. All that is in Huny Punky chocolate is: Water, Cashews, Agave, and cocoa. It’s all natural stuff, made with agave and not sugar, so is also low GI. I love how it’s made with cashews instead of soya or dairy. It makes it so unique! Some of the flavours are 100% raw too, so even raw foodists can enjoy it.

Ps, what you you guys think of the new baner? Quite proud of it, if I do say so myself 😀
